About Us
The Adamstown Model Railway Club Inc, is located at the corner of Glebe Road and Park Avenue Adamstown. The Club occupies the former Adamstown Signal Box, situated within the Adamstown Station precinct.
Starting in 1989 as the ‘Our Town HO Model Railway Club Inc’, its first meetings were held in rooms at Wickham Railway Station.
In 1990, the club founding members leased the now decommissioned Adamstown Signal Box from the State Rail Authority, with a vision to restoring it and creating a clubhouse where they could meet, build a layout and run trains.
Those members worked tirelessly over 10 months to remove the steel signal frame, levers and rodding. They had to repair a considerable amount of white ant damage, replace all ceilings, walls and both upstairs and downstairs floors and reconstruct the window configuration to make up for those too damaged to repair.
‘The Box’ is a testimonial to their vision and energy of those members to not only save an iconic 1940’s building, but also to create a unique experience for members and visitors with the miniature trains operating close to the ‘big trains’ outside the window.
In the Autumn of 2023, Sydney Trains and Transport for NSW undertook a major refurbishment of the building which has given it a significant lease of life. The Club acknowledges the significant investment they have made in providing the Club with a long term home.
The Club currently has three ‘HO’ layouts of NSW prototype:
Upstairs is a 10mtr x 2.7mtr fixed layout, it has four operating loops with three sidings each and a shunting yard.
Downstairs is a 10mtr x 2.7mtr layout, designed to be dismantled and reassembled for exhibition purposes. It has two loops with three sidings each and a shunting yard. This layout is wired for both DC and DCC operation.
The third layout, 7mtr x 2.7mtr is an exhibition layout that is kept in the club trailer. It has two main lines and a branchline, each with three sidings.
In 2023 the Club had a change of name that better reflects our location. We pride ourselves on being friendly and informal. We have members of all ages and junior members are encouraged with parental supervision.
Visitor and membership enquiries are welcome. Contact us at info@atmrc.org or visit the Club during opening hours.
